Introduction

The Film Society had been working based off the assumption that “most people just follow our instagram anyway”.
Research
Semi-structured interviews revealed
"It took me a while to find the membership button"
"Some buttons just move me to the wrong part of the same page"
"Why is there information here from 2021?"

Problem Breakdown
Unclear navigation
Membership purchase: Users needed to navigate to an arbitrary page.
Redundancy and clutter
Unnecessary pages, redundant or expired info and low ideological coherence
High maintenance
Too many sections requiring regular manual updation
Redesign Goals
Clear Information Architecture
Organize sections into logically coherent groups
Effective communication
Make the website both informative and inspiring
Eliminate errors
Remove old information and prevent future errors
Design process and decisions
Early ideation and sketches

Style guide
Created a moodboard and style guide with colours inspired by theatres and popcorn

Design decision: 11 pages to 4
Grouping similar information, deleting irrelevant content and reducing the number of pages cast the spotlight on what was essential and made features discoverable.

Design feature: Bento box inspired section
A bento box inspired section quickly informs users on different activities while prompting membership purchases and subscriptions

Design feature: 3 birds, one stone
An instagram plugin allowed users to:
Quickly navigate to the Instagram page
Know latest upcoming events
While removing need for executives to manually update the site.

Identity: New logo, new FilmSoc
